12:49 am - September 08, 2003 So I woke up tonight having soaked through my t-shirt in sweat. I only had a sheet covering me and for some reason was on fire. Last time I had this, I diagnosed myself with the menopause. That was all I could think of except, um, I'm male and I'm pretty young even for early onset menopause. If it happens again, I'll break out Our Bodies Ourselves and see if I am indeed "going through the change." VerucaAmish and I just got back from California where we dined well and enjoyed some fucking incredible weather. We spent time with Nip, a friend I have known since high school and Beat Poet and Beanie, two of the people we lived with in the semi-vegetarian, do-gooder group house a few blocks from here. Nip was hilarious and just so damn fun and caring and great as always and she really took care of us. It was cool to know that all three of us are the types of people who aren't all fucked up about spending all our time together when visiting and that we could give her space and she was not insulted and we were not being rude. Yeah--houseguests for a week-- it might be fun, but it can get old. That rocked. One of the things we did that rocked the sweet boogie was going to tea at the Ritz Carlton. Absolutely elegant and everything was so damn tiny and tasty. We were the only men there except for one other in the corner, but that is nothing new. The tea was delicious. Mine was a rose tea that I had because I used to drink it with my grandmother at the tea room in the back of the antique store. It tasted vaguely perfumey which in most situations would make me gag like a valley girl, but I did just fine. VA had Blue Sapphire -- fucking incredible, and Nip had English Breakfast -- another winner. It was very special to get all gussied up and have fancy sandwiches and sweets and then walk around the beautifl grounds there. We don't splurge like that very often, so it worked out well that the day was perfect. It was a "so this is how rich people live" moment. Other highlights include seeing Kyle from Project Greenlight driving by and sitting near Robert Klein at Jerry's Deli. Shit, I figure we had to see at least one star or two, right? And of course, the SanRio store at the Beverly Center has a friggin' Hello Kitty bike! Not this one, or this one, but THIS ONE. I am going back to bed and dream of a world where I ride that bike to work and all is well.
