08:20 - Thursday, Nov. 07, 2002 It got worse I was in Lowell doing Exit Polling on Southeast Asian voters and it was fucking depressing. Go to dharmaqueen's entry for a good idea of how I'm feeling. After seeing hundreds of Vietnamese, Laotians, and Cambodian voters vote for Mitt Romney, I had this dread that yes, the Republicuan party was going to win this race and yes it could happen in the rest of the country. What's so mind blowing is that the Republican administration of evil are the very ones who are working hard to deport the loved ones of every one of these people voting. Seriously, they've already got Cambodia to sign the agreement where Cabmodia would accept deportees and Vietnam and Laos are on the way. I saw signs for the Republicans in Asian businesses and I knew my own community was deeply stupid when it comes to this. Those people don't represent all Southeast Asians(thank god) but those were the people with access and resources and money. Luckily I was doing the Exit Poll with young, radical, Asians who want really want to address deep issues of racial profiling and lack of support for Southeast Asian youth. But based on the sexism, adultism and classism that exists in my community, people like the people I worked with struggle to be a voice in their community. The hard thing about this election is I don't see a light at the end of the tunnel. I see the Democrats trying even harder to show that they're really just like the Republicans. What they don't want to point out is that every Senator who voted for the Bush tax cut who was up for election pretty much got the boot for a REAL Republican. I mean why settle for Democratic margarine when you can have good old conversative butter that will clog your heart and kill you. I feel wounded. In a really physical way. I haven't felt this bad since my ex broke up with me. It feels like a breakup actually. The anxiety, the looking back, and the desperation of trying NOT to think about what happened. I think the American political system just broke up with me. It's been happening for a long time now (Thanks a lot Bill Clinton and your goddamned welfare reform) but now I realize that it's got a mistress and I'll need to get tested for an STD.
