10:14 am - September 09, 2003 RE: Kucinich --He has some great things to say, but his lack of consistency on reproductive health and rights for women is frightening. He told voters in Ohio that he shared their pro-life views in a questionaire and has in the past received 90% and higher ratings from the National Right To Life (so long at it is a life they approve of) Committee. He is distancing himself from that, but was entrenched in the other side. In July 2000, he voted for an amendment that would have prohibited the Food and Drug Administration from using funds to test, develop or approve any abortion drug. As recently as 2001, he voted not to fund International Planned Parenthood and voted to kill federal funding for abortions for overseas military. As much as I support much of what he stands for, his position and history not just on abortion itself but most of the related issues to abortion is scary. I want people to make the change that he says he has, but I do not want them in charge of appointing Supreme Cout justices and having veto power over some very nuanced decisions about women's lives.
