Pre-wedding
Wedding Entry Part I

This is the first of several wedding/reception/and honeymoon entries. Sit back, relax, and enjoy the show!

We had been planning for just over a year when our big day was finally near. Our families began arriving on Wednesday and by the Friday before the wedding, the DC area was full of family and friends. Folks were here from California, Texas, Louisiana, Florida, Massachusetts, Maryland, Virginia, and the DC area.

Our Wedding Coordinators, RootBeer and Ms. Stitch were running around and just making things happen like they had been for the weeks leading up to the big weekend.

I'm amazed I get to know people like them. They have been there every step of the way, asking questions, challenging us and each other to do the best job possible, and just being damn fine creative and critical thinkers. Yes, there were moments of tension and personality oddity, but it all worked out well and most issues were quickly accomodated or resolved.

The week before they collaborated with some friends to throw us a shower/work party.

What a blast! We played toilet paper brides (where the marrying couple is separated and two teams decorate them with toilet paper to see who can come up with the best dress.)

I had been uncategorically opposed to this until the time came and it just made more sense to do it. In the end my Ultra Charmin Gown with an impressive empire waist and elaborate two-ply trail lost out to my groom-to-be's dress. I was happy for him though!

Perhaps the highlight of the shower was the presentation of the armadillo cake. Yes, as in the red velvet cake in the shape of an armadillo from Steel Magnolias.

I couldn't fathom that my friends would actually make this. It was gorgeous, delicious, and vegetarian! (No armadillos were harmed in the making of the cake). We got a lot done at the work party part so we went towards the wedding weekend feeling pretty prepared.

Next up. . . The Rehearsal.
